Farm Credit East Contributes $200,000 to Northeast Food Security Initiatives

Farm Credit East recently announced it contributed $200,000 to Northeast food security initiatives as part of the Food Access Infrastructure Initiative. Four organizations each received $50,000 to improve infrastructure and help mitigate food insecurity.

Comfort Food Community, located in Greenwich, New York, will use the grant to replace the roof on their Food and Farm Hub. Replacing the roof will safeguard food supplies and ensure a stable and efficient working environment to help continue supporting local farms and food access.

Fulfill, The Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, located in Neptune, New Jersey, will use the funds to expand their warehouse and cold storage space. This expansion will help increase the distribution of food to their network of pantries, shelters and soup kitchens in the Jersey Shore region.

Boston Area Gleaners, located in Acton, Massachusetts, plans to construct a new distribution center with the grant. Working with farmers to reduce food waste and increase food security, this new space will significantly expand their capacity to provide fresh fruits and vegetables to the greater New England area.

FeedMore WNY, located in Buffalo, New York, will use the funds to build new loading docks at their new campus. This will allow them to streamline shipping and receiving food, providing meals and produce more efficiently to their various outlets.
