April will have a nice upturn; component values are up, but PPD will be down. Fat was flat with protein roaring back another $0.36/lb (See graph on Page 2) and other solids remained flat. For our example herd, component prices increased $0.82/cow/day. April PPD will likely decrease $0.74/cwt ($0.63/cow/day) resulting in a total change per cow of +0.19/day. Our 12-month rolling projection for all milk price is $18.51/cwt (Boston), up $0.48/cwt from last month.
Cheese trades from $1.67 to $1.75 with an average of $1.71, up 3%. NFDM trades from 1.01 to 1.16 with an average of $1.10 up 5.6%. Straight up!

Below are the protein prices projected from the weekly NDPSR prices for the first 17 weeks of 2019. Since week 6 (2/9/19), protein prices have been increasing $0.086/week. This rate of increase cannot continue much longer, and protein should flatten out around $2.20/lb in September.
