Put the Latest Science into Practice at the American Dairy Science Association Annual Meeting
The 2025 Annual Meeting of the American Dairy Science Association (ADSA)–the scientific organization behind the Journal of Dairy Science and JDS Communications–takes place June 22 to 25 in Louisville, Kentucky. This year’s event includes the first-ever applied nutrition day of sessions, a specialized program designed to equip practicing dairy nutritionists and producers with the latest science-driven, real-world strategies. With a focus on high oleic soybeans and milk fat optimization, this new initiative aligns with ADSA’s ongoing mission to promote the exchange of scientific and technical knowledge to help foster a thriving dairy sector.
“The ADSA Annual Meeting has long been the premier forum for advancing dairy science, and this year, we are taking a new step in making that science even more applicable for dairy nutritionists,” said Corwin Nelson, ADSA’s Annual Meeting Science Director and associate professor in the Department of Animal Sciences at the University of Florida. “This first-of-its-kind programming will ensure that professionals can take the latest research and immediately apply it to dairy rations, benefiting their client’s bottom line.”
Registration is open now, and early bird pricing ends on April 22, 2025. The applied nutrition program will feature two key sessions tailored for dairy nutrition:
Applied Nutrition Platform Session: Leveraging High Oleic Soybeans for Dairy Cow Profitability
This session will provide in-depth insights into the biological and economic benefits of incorporating high oleic soybeans into dairy diets. Experts–including Kevin Harvatine (The Pennsylvania State University), Lynn Davis (Breeze Dairy Group and Quality Roasting), Alycia Bales (Caledonia Farmers Elevator), Adam Lock (Michigan State University), Michael Van Amburgh (Cornell University), and more–will cover advanced soybean-processing techniques, the impact of fatty acids on milk production, and real-world case studies on implementation strategies. Attendees will also gain exclusive access to emerging research through selected abstract presentations, ensuring they leave with both foundational knowledge and forward-looking applications.
Applied Nutrition Symposium: Milk Pricing Dynamics and Strategies for Enhancing Milk Fat Production
Milk fat plays a critical role in dairy farm profitability, and this interactive symposium and panel discussion will offer a deep dive into the latest strategies for optimizing milk fat production. Presenters will translate cutting-edge research into practical feeding approaches, exploring diet formulation techniques, economic considerations, and real-world modeling scenarios that can help nutritionists support their clients’ financial success.
“ADSA has always been about putting science into practice, not just sharing science among scientists,” said Mike VandeHaar, ADSA President. “We recognize the critical role nutritionists play in dairy’s success. With this expanded program, we are ensuring that the most relevant, impactful research reaches our partners working directly with dairy farmers and herds.”
To accommodate busy schedules, ADSA offers flexible one-day registration options and discounted hotel rates, making it easier than ever for nutritionists to attend.
In 2025, the ADSA Annual Meeting will continue to be the world’s leading dairy science conference, bringing together researchers, industry leaders, and dairy professionals to explore the latest scientific advancements across all sectors of dairy production. This year’s program features important partner organizations including Interbull (whose annual meeting is happening in partnership with ADSA), the National Animal Nutrition Program, the American Society of Animal Science, the Poultry Science Association, the Canadian Society of Animal Science, and more.
The ADSA Annual Meeting extends beyond applied nutrition, offering a comprehensive program that addresses the most pressing issues and innovations in dairy science, including
- Breeding for the future
- Feed additives to mitigate methane
- Interspecies crossover of highly pathogenic avian influenza into dairy cattle
- Health benefits of cheese
- Value-added dairy powders with specialized functionality
- Anomalies in analyzed nutrient composition
