Next week, August 11-13, 2026 is the annual Ag Progress Days at the Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center (2710 W. Pine Grove Road, Pennsylvania Furnace, PA 16865). Come check out various booths, events, and activities related to field and forage crop production. Below are a few highlights, but not an exhaustive list. One-Day Activities

Organic Grain and Forage Research Demo and Field Walk

When: August 12, 2026, 8:30-11:30 AM

Where: Cover Crop Cocktails Site (GPS Coordinates: 40.722356, -77.928529), parking is available on-site

Stop out on your way to Ag Progress Days to discover the latest advancements in organic grain and forage production through an interactive field experience highlighting current research and on-farm innovation. Explore findings from Penn State Extension research trials, examine how different management practices influence soil health, and learn about mechanical and biological approaches to weed management. Gain insight into upcoming organic research opportunities while exchanging ideas, successes, and challenges with researchers and fellow organic growers committed to advancing sustainable farming practices. Coffee and snacks will be provided. Walk-ins welcome, but pre-registration is appreciated.

Hay Show and Wheat Grain Quality Display and Contest

When: August 11-13, 2026, all day

Visit the hay sample and wheat grain quality displays to see the premium samples entered.

Entries for the hay contest must be submitted by 12:00 noon on Tuesday, August 11. For more details, see PA Forage and Grassland Council to Host Annual Hay Show.

Nutrient Management & Manure Hauler-Broker CECs

When: August 11-13, 2026, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Where:  W. 9th St. Meeting Area (W906)

Earn 3 Nutrient Management and 3 Manure Hauler/Broker Credits. Topics vary based on the day. Visit PA Plants website for details.

Equipment Demos

10:30 AM – Hay Mowing and Tedding

11:00 AM – Composting Tour – livestock mortality management (Bus leaves at 11AM)

11:45 AM – Cover Crops/Planting Green

12:30 PM – Combining Wheat Demo

1:15 PM – Straw Baling

2:15 PM – Hay Raking, Baling, and Bale Handling
