The health improvements translated into strong economic returns. “The ranch realized treatment savings of $0.53 to $0.76 per calf,” Ward explains. “That equated to a 1.3:1 to 1.9:1 return on investment from treatment reduction alone.”

When reduced mortality was included, the financial impact increased significantly. “A 7% reduction in mortality represented an additional value of $1.61 per calf,” Ward adds. “Combined with treatment savings, total value ranged from $2.14 to $2.37 per calf, resulting in an overall ROI of 5.2:1 to 5.8:1. All calculations were based on the operation’s treatment costs and an estimated market cost of $1,000 per replacement heifer.”
