The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced this spring that it would allow schools to continue to serve low-fat flavored milk and that it would put on hold the stringent sodium targets for the next two school years. This decision will ease the planning and supply process for schools and food suppliers, while continuing to provide healthy meals to children. At the same time, it leaves open the possibility that low-fat flavored milk and cheese could be stripped from school meals starting school year 2024/2025. IDFA needs your help in urging the Department to promulgate permanent rules that protect nutritious milk offerings and cheese in school meals and are consistent with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
