Life on a dairy farm always comes with some urgency – chores to do, machinery to fix and numerous tasks that must be done right away. We also operate with a sense of urgency at IDP as we advocate for the dairy industry. I’ve been busy this summer talking with legislators, media and industry members about securing our workforce. There is great uncertainty and anxiety on farms as our employees hear of workplace raids and other immigration activity. We are working hard to build coalitions in agriculture to find sensible solutions with our legislators and the Executive Branch of government.
On a positive note, the USDA deciding on Indianapolis as a hub for its employees means we’ll have closer access to federal workers. Time will tell what this will look like, but it is good to have our state chosen. By the time you read this, the Indiana State Fair will be in full swing, running through August 17. It is great to connect with so many in our industry and wider agriculture at this great celebration of all things ag. Plus, it is always a summer highlight to try the new milkshake at the Dairy Bar.
As summer turns to fall, we’ll keep up the pace with our various continuing education offerings and planning for the Regional meetings in the winter. Your input is always welcome on topics and ideas for both the educational offerings and our meeting topics.
