Make Biosecurity a Priority in the New Year

Consider attending one of these events or calls in the new year:

• HPAI and Biosecurity Resource Center at Keystone Farm Show (January 7-9). Drop in to the HPAI and Biosecurity Resource Center anytime from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day of the show (in the meeting room of Building 3). Staff from the Center for Dairy Excellence, PA Department of Agriculture and Penn State Extension will be available for walk-ins to distribute free signage and PPE equipment to producers who stop by. You can also work with staff to start creating your biosecurity plan, get questions answered, and more. Learn more about the Resource Center.
• PA Agriculture HPAI Monthly Conference Call (January 15 at 1 p.m.). The Center for Dairy Excellence and Penn Ag Industries Association will host the next joint monthly Pennsylvania Agriculture HPAI Conference Call for producers and stakeholders from all animal ag industries on January 15. Panelists from the Department of Agriculture and other state/federal organizations will share updates on the HPAI health situation, Pennsylvania’s response efforts, and what it means for farms. Add the call to your calendar.
• “Creating a Dairy Biosecurity Plan for HPAI Workshops” (January 27 and 30 in various locations). Designed to aid PA dairy producers, these workshops focus on creating effective biosecurity plans that align with the PA Department of Agriculture’s Guidelines, to protect herds from Bovine Influenza A. During this open-house-style event, work with a Penn State Extension Dairy Educator in developing your biosecurity plan for your farm. They will guide you through the essential components and state requirements of a biosecurity plan should your farm be quarantined from an outbreak of Bovine Influenza A. View dates and locations.
