July 13 Water Tours to highlight technologies and management practices in action
The tour bus will depart from the Middleton, Wis., Park and Ride at 9:15 a.m. and return by 3:15 p.m. The tours are a collaborative effort between Professional Dairy Producers®, UW Discovery Farms®, Wisconsin Counties Association, Wisconsin Towns Association and Pheasants Forever.
“Wisconsin’s water supply affects all of us, so it’s essential that everyone understands the challenges and solutions we’re using to protect and preserve this critical resource,” said John Haag, Dane, Wis., dairy producer and PDPW board president. “The Water Tours provide an opportunity to hear from experts and researchers as they highlight the latest technologies and innovations being used to ensure the quality and quantity of Wisconsin water for generations to come.”
Departing from Middleton Park and Ride, 4400 Parmenter St., Middleton, Wis., the bus will take participants to tour stops at:
- Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District’s Nine Springs Wastewater Treatment Plant to see how drained and flushed water from homes and businesses is transformed into clean water and renewable resources.
- EnTech Solutions Middleton Digester will showcase how bovine manure is processed into biogas and renewable natural gas (RNG) to serve as a replacement for traditional transportation fuels.
- Blue Star Dairy to meet the cows who fuel the Middleton Digestor and learn about how cows are fed, housed and cared for as they produce milk for thousands of people.
Bus-travel time will feature facilitated discussions with water quality experts, researchers and more.
Tours are designed for community members, farmers, educators, local elected officials, media and concerned citizens. Pre-registration is necessary and space is limited.
