Select Sires employee Paul Tveten, State FSA Director Joe Martin, and Ag Commissioner Thom Peterson were all surprised with awards for their efforts in 2019.
Minnesota Milk’s Annual Meeting resulted in passage of a by-law change to allow for four at-large board members with six district board members as the board reduced in size to 11 board members in 2020 and 10 in 2021.
Minnesota Milk Directors Bob Dombeck and Dave Buck were reelected to their positions, and the Minnesota Milk Executive Committee was also re-elected at the board’s reorganizational meeting; President, Dave Buck, Goodhue; Vice President, Shelly DePestel, Lewiston; Secretary, Bob Dombeck, Perham; and Treasurer, Rick Smith, Adams.
In addition, the Conference was excited to host Governor Tim Walz as he provided remarks with a unified message for all Minnesotans. Furthermore, the event celebrated previously announced winners; Legislator of the Year Melissa Hortman, Bruce Cottington “Friend of Dairy” Award winner Ted Matthews, and Producer of the Year Miron Farm.
Above and Beyond Award: PaulTveten, an artificial insemination technician service manager assisted many dairy farmers in a time of disaster by rushing to farm sites as buildings were collapsing under the weight of snow. He lined up trailers and kept records for several farms whose barn rooves collapsed over the course of a few weekends in southeast Minnesota.
