At the 70th annual meeting of the National Dairy Shrine, Nate Janssen, Wheaton, Illinois was elected President of the organization. Meanwhile, Dr. Dennis Funk, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin was chosen as President-Elect. Elected to the Executive Committee along with Janssen and Funk were Janet Keller, Oregon, Wis.; Tim Abbott, Enosburg, Vt.; Dr Matt Iager, Boonsboro, Md.; and immediate Past President Larry Schirm of Laurelville, Oh.
The new 2019-2020 National Dairy Shrine board of directors includes returning directors: Bonnie Bargstedt, Valatie, New York, Fowler Branstetter, Edmonton, Kentucky, Jim Dickrell, Monticello, Minnesota, Randy Gross Sr., Elkton, South Dakota, Linda Hanson, Goodridge, Minnesota, Joel Hastings, Madera, California, Stan Henderson, Paso Robles, California., James Huffard, Crockett, Virginia, Rita Kennedy, Valencia, Ken Raney, State College, Pennsylvania, Dan Schimek, Eagle Lake, Minnesota, Royce Thornton, Wooster, Ohio, Karen Wheatley, Crumpton, Maryland, and Leah Ziemba, Madison, Wisconsin. Newly elected director is Tina Larson, Pine Island, Minnesota. At the annual NDS board meeting the National Dairy Shrine directors approved the continuation of fulfilling the mission of the NDS founders of preserving dairy history and honoring the past, present and future dairy leaders.
At the National Dairy Shrine’s annual banquet, over $60,000 in scholarships and awards were awarded to 47 outstanding young people. This year’s National Dairy Shrine Awards banquet was attended by 300 Dairy Shrine members, dairy leaders, friends and relatives.
