New Indiana Online Ag School Takes Students “Down on the Farm”

Farm Week Introduces Kids to Ag-Related Career Pathways

Students at Indiana Agriculture & Technology School will spend a week “down on the farm.” The new tuition-free, online charter school will host a Farm Week for its students on its 600-acre farm campus in Morgantown this week.

“This is a phenomenal chance for our kids to get together and spend quality time together on the farm,” says Keith Marsh, the school’s Executive Director and Chief Academic Officer. “They’ll get a full week of hands-on learning as well as the opportunity to get to know one another even better. It’s a great way to build a school community.”

 

 

Fifty-nine students will arrive on the farm campus Sunday, April 28^th. In addition to their online learning, they will explore different ag-related career pathways like forestry, wetland ecology, drone aviation, veterinary medicine, and invasive species. Career specialists from Purdue Forestry and Natural Resources, Monrovia Vet Clinic, Co-Alliance, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, and Sichting Farm will be on hand to lend their expertise.

“Our school’s mission is to introduce students to different careers in agriculture and technology,” Marsh explains. “What better way to learn than from the very people who work these jobs every day. It’s one thing to learn from a book. It’s another thing entirely to get hands-on experience.”

Students will stay at the Indiana FFA Leadership Center in nearby Trafalgar where they will partake in archery and ropes courses in the evenings. They’ll also complete a beautification project at the Center on Friday, May 3^rd before they depart for the week.

The IATS farm is located at 1982 South Morgantown Road, Morgantown, Indiana 46160. The 600-acre campus is evenly divided between pasture, tillable crop, and classified forest.
