Online series kicks off second year of production with outlook and analysis for coming growing season
Cheryl A. Skjolaas, Agricultural Safety and Health Specialist, Center for Agricultural Safety and Health, UW-Madison/Division of Extension, and Marsha Salzwedel, Project Scientist at Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation/National Farm Medicine Center will provide a review of safety practices for all ages for the upcoming season.
Two popular presenters — Eric Snodgrass, Principal Atmospheric Scientist for Nutrien Ag Solutions, and Dan Basse, Economist and President of AgResource Company — will return to The Dairy Signal to share insights and analysis on weather and market trends.
Developed by fellow dairy farmers from the PDPW Board of Directors, The Dairy Signal is a weekly series of free educational episodes offering insights and resources for fellow dairy farmers and other food system professionals throughout the value chain. The episodes air live from 12:00-1:00 PM CT each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; recorded sessions are available later in the day.
Dan Venteicher, owner/manager, Honey Creek Dairy LLC, Jared Feltz, co-owner, Feltz Family Farms & Dairy Store, and James Salfer, Extension Professor, Center for Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, University of Minnesota, joined The Dairy Signal on April 6 to provide insights on their experience with robotic milkers and factors involved in selecting, installing and ramping up new equipment on their farms.
The April 7 episode featured Zoey Nelson, COO of Brooks Farm 1855 LLC, and Heather Johnson, Calf Barn Manager, Alfalawn Farm, sharing their experiences with automatic calf feeders and the protocols they’ve established for calf care on their farms.
Terry Allen, North American Business Development Manager, Consumer Physics, and Dr. Luiz Ferraretto, Assistant Professor and Ruminant Nutrition Extension Specialist, UW-Madison, discussed the importance of testing forages and feed ingredients and shared new SCiO Cup technology for measuring and analyzing rations during the April 8 episode.
Each live session offers attendees the opportunity to engage in open Q&A with the speakers through the interactive platform.
Episodes of The Dairy Signal through April 15 are presented by ProAGtive Technologies, an organization of independent nutritionists that bring a team approach to the farm. Through nutrition, and customized value added service, ProAGtive is defining and gaining profitability for producers, by understanding their needs and goals.
