New Phibro Webinar Series Helps Producers Overcome Dairy’s Most Profit-Draining Challenges; Begins with Heat Stress

The first webinar will explore the impacts of heat stress on lactation and productivity.

Dr. Geoffrey Dahl, Harriet B. Weeks Professor, Department of Animal Sciences, University of Florida, and former President, American Dairy Science Association, and Dr. Glenn Holub, Executive Dairy Technology Manager, Phibro, will host the first webinar in the series, “Milking Us Dry: Dairy’s Most Profit-Draining Challenges – Heat Stress,” on Wednesday, April 6 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Eastern time. “Heat stress has dramatic and negative impacts on dairy cattle productivity across the life cycle,” says Dr. Dahl. “While the most commonly recognized heat stress impacts are on milk production, evidence also indicates a profound impact on immune response for the prenatal stage through lactation, so it’s imperative that dairy producers understand the full picture and take steps to mitigate the effects of heat stress.”

During the 60-minute webinar, Dr. Dahl and Dr. Holub will review the impact of heat stress on milk yield and explore its effect on lactation, including the

physiological reasons for those effects. They’ll also look at the negative impacts of heat stress on mammary development, immune function, and productivity in the next lactation. Webinar attendees can expect to learn how cows respond to heat stress across the phases of the lactation cycle and why dry cows require heat stress abatement to help optimize productivity and health.
