Longtime Holstein enthusiast Fred Strouse, 84, of State College, Pa., died April 26, 2021 at Juniper Village at Brookline. Born August 10, 1936, in State College, Fred was a 1954 graduate of State College High School.
He had been a partner in Tusseyview Farm in Centre Hall, Pa., with Boyd Homan, where they bred, showed and merchandised Registered Holsteins for many years. Among other business interests he had been a partner in a local livestock auction barn. After the herd was dispersed, Fred enjoyed owning partnership show animals winning All-American recognition. He regularly attended World Dairy Expo and the Pennsylvania All-American as well as local shows, until suffering a stroke which limited his ability to travel.
He had retired as a real estate agent from Kissinger, Bigatel and Brower, specializing in farm and land sales.
Fred was a member of the Centre County Holstein Club and the Pennsylvania Holstein Association serving several terms as a state director. He was in the Pennsylvania Holstein Hall of Fame. He was a member of the National Holstein Association, selected regularly as a delegate to Convention. He was active in the Baileyville Grange and served on the Grange Fair Board. He was an active member in the Mountain View Country Club where he enjoyed golf, a sport he took up later in life.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., on Saturday, May 1, 2021, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pine Hall Cemetery.
