Ohio Foodbanks Seeking Local Beef

The Ohio Association of Foodbanks has been allocated $15 million from the State of Ohio to restock their shelves with locally sourced dairy, livestock and poultry protein sources. The funds must be used to purchase these items from Ohio-based producers and processors.
 
As an Ohio dairy farmer, how can you help?
 
The allocated $15 million creates opportunity for Ohio farmers to sell or donate their cull cattle to the Ohio Association of Foodbanks to be processed into hamburger. The foodbank will purchase the cattle, then pay for and coordinate processing and transportation to each of their 13 regional locations. Cattle can be sold or donated throughout the year, but you must act now to take advantage of this opportunity.
 
Ohio’s dairy associations are serving as the avenue to connect interested farmers with the Ohio Association of Food Banks. Interested farmers or brokers are asked to complete this form and a representative from the foodbank will follow up to coordinate logistics and pricing. We are also working with the processing community to coordinate the sale of dairy products like milk, cheese, yogurt and cottage cheese. The Ohio Dairy Producers Association was instrumental in working with our state’s legislative leaders to secure the funds for this opportunity.
