Senator Tester Introduces ‘Right to Repair’ Legislation

Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) introduced first of its kind legislation that would ensure farmers and ranchers have the Right to Repair their own farm equipment. Currently, documentation, parts, and software tools are not being made available reliably and affordably to farmers and independent mechanics. This makes it difficult and costly for farmers to fix what they already own.

NFU President Rob Larew was quoted in the official press release announcing the legislation: “Manufacturers have far too much control over what farmers are allowed to do with their own equipment, and this costs farmers time and money,” said Rob Larew, President of the National Farmers Union. “Senator Tester’s bill would give farmers and independent mechanics the freedom to fix their equipment in a timely and cost-effective way.”
