Speaker Available At No Cost for Fall and Winter Meetings to Share Real-Life Perspective on Biosecurity

The Center Is Sponsoring Dan Hougentogler to Speak at Fall and Winter Meetings

For seed and nutrition companies, veterinary practices and other agriculture organizations that are planning fall and winter meetings, the Center for Dairy Excellence is sponsoring Dan Hougentogler, a specialist in biosecurity and emergency response, to speak at no cost. Hougentogler can share real-world perspective about why biosecurity matters to Pennsylvania dairy producers and industry professionals, referencing his time spent working with producers and regulatory agencies for disease outbreaks. Speaking requests will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

“With HPAI in dairy continuing to move across the United States and biosecurity becoming more important on dairy farms, the Center is offering to sponsor Dan Hougentogler as a speaker at a limited amount of meetings this winter to encourage more dairy farmers to understand why biosecurity matters to their operation,” said Jayne Sebright, Executive Director at the Center for Dairy Excellence. “Dan has worked across the country directly with producers and regulatory agencies in dealing with HPAI and other disease outbreaks. He brings a real-life perspective to the topic and could be very insightful for your audience to hear.”

Dan Hougentogler graduated from the University of Delaware (UD) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology. Dan is currently the president of Hougentogler Enterprises, LLC an animal disease response consulting firm, that specializes in poultry diseases, emergency response, biosecurity education, implementation, and stakeholder integration. He is also a current board member of Agricultural Emergency Services, Inc., a manufacturing and response group specializing in nitrogen foam depopulation equipment for livestock and poultry.

Dan has served on incident management teams through the 2022-2024 HPAI incident in roles such as disease management branch director, depopulation and virus elimination subject matter expert, and as a trainer for depopulation and biosecurity.  He was also involved in the 2015 HPAI outbreak in Minnesota, training response contractors on proper depopulation and personal protective equipment protocols techniques. Dan worked in poultry disease response and research for the University of Delaware from 2007- 2022. During this time, his programs and research included depopulation, viral load reduction treatments, and regional and international emergency response training programs. Since 2009, Dan has been involved with international training such as UD’s Emergency Poultry Disease Response and Regionalization Symposium where Dan instructed and demonstrated the best tools and options for production animal disease management.
