The Dairy Challenge is the premier dairy collegiate experience
As part of the competition, students tour and evaluate a farm and then create presentations with their assessment findings. Students present recommendations directly to the dairy producers pertaining to their operations and are graded by a panel of judges from various facets of the dairy industry. Students receive feedback from the judges and producers, and the top teams are recognized with awards.
The 2021 Northeast Regional competition featured 85 students from ten colleges and universities and emphasized networking and communication skills as students from different schools worked together on aggregate teams.
Two SUNY Cobleskill students were on winning teams. Courtney Groom (Dairy Production & Management, Ag Business Management ‘23) was on the First Place team for Farm 1, sponsored by Genex, which included students from Cornell University, Alfred State, and the University of Vermont.
Keith Lanphear (Dairy Production & Management ‘22) was a member of the Second Place team for Farm 2, sponsored by Valley Ag Software, which included students from Cornell University, Alfred State, and the University of Maine.
All five SUNY Cobleskill students worked hard, had fun, and delivered excellent presentations. They hope to compete in the National Dairy Challenge competition scheduled for April 2022 in Wisconsin.
