The 2022 Nebraska Dairy Convention was a success!

Kris Bousquet, Nebraska State Dairy Association

The 2022 Nebraska Dairy Convention was another glowing success. A big thank you goes out to all of the volunteers, vendors, and attendees who made the day an amazing event. Our event has grown in size every year and even had representation all the way from Australia! I think our convention is a direct representation of the momentum we have in our state and the optimism in our efforts. Thanks for supporting that great event!

If you had a chance to attend the NSDA annual meeting you heard a quick update from our lobbyist Russ Westerhold. We have 4 bills that we continue to monitor and support which are:

LB 1006- $25Million ARPA Request for dairy processing expansion- this bill is in committee and will be either in the Appropriations Committee’s ARPA recommendation or be excluded altogether.

LB 1014- Governors Budget includes a dairy processing barrier study – this bill’s success is hinged on the appropriations committee’s ARPA bill. We hope it will be included as well as 1006.

LB 1103- Next Gen Program Revisions- this bill is in committee, it has a large fiscal note so most likely it will not see the floor. We will ask for an interim study to evaluate the program and how to make it work better for livestock.

LB 1261- Livestock Modernization Program changes- This bill has a hearing on Thursday, March 3 in which we will testify. This bill would increase the refundable tax credit for producers building livestock facilities from $125,000 to $500,000 or 10% of the overall investment on the project, whichever comes first.

Stay tuned to these updates for more information about our legislative success. Also, tune in to the “dairy update” with Chad Moyer on KTIC radio on Fridays as there will be updates there as well.
