Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW), announces the line-up of speakers for week 68 of The Dairy Signal™. Episodes this week will highlight prevention of human trafficking in rural areas, as well as research updates on dairy cow calcium needs and reproduction.
Dr. Laura Hernandez, PhD, Professor of Lactation Physiology, Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences, University of Wisconsin-Madison will present another “Rising Stars – Graduate Research Showcase” featuring updates on calcium research presented by UW-Madison researchers Meghan Connelly and Pedro Leopoldo Jeronimo Monteiro Junior. Dr. Paul Fricke, PhD, Dairy Reproduction Specialist with UW-Madison, will return to The Dairy Signal to present a program focused on how Body Condition Score impacts reproduction in dairy cows.
Developed by fellow dairy farmers from the PDPW Board of Directors, The Dairy Signal is a weekly series of free educational episodes offering insights and resources for fellow dairy farmers and other food system professionals throughout the value chain. The episodes air live from 12:00-1:00 PM CT each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; recorded sessions are available later in the day.
The July 20 episode featured Marsha Salzwedel, Project Scientist at Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation/National Farm Medicine Center with strategies to address distractions on farms and safely design jobs for employees and family members of all ages. On July 21, Karen Kelley, Owner, Kelley Country Creamery, Eden, Wisc., and James Baerwolf, Owner, Sassy Cow Creamery, Sun Prairie, Wisc., shared their experiences and lessons learned in diversifying their dairy farms by making and selling homestead ice cream.
Dan Basse, Economist and President of AgResource Company, returned to The Dairy Signal on July 22 with his bi-weekly update and analysis of U.S. and global agricultural markets, delivering insights on how weather is impacting feed supply and quality, as well as inflation and dairy pricing trends.
Each live session offers attendees the opportunity to engage in open Q&A with the speakers through the interactive platform.
