There’s still time to join in on the Conversation at the 2021 PDPW Water Tours

September tours feature a variety of approaches used by unique businesses to protect and manage a valuable resource – water

 

Join in on conservations with elected officials, farmers, business leaders and community members at the 2021 PDPW Water Tours where multiple industries will share their innovative approaches they are taking to protect water quality and preserve it for future generations.

Two day-long tours are scheduled for Sept. 21 in Wausau, Wis., with pick-up at 8:00 a.m., and on Sept. 22 in Barron, Wis., with pick-up at 9:00 a.m., with busses returning at 4:00 p.m. The tours are made possible by a partnership between Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW) , UW Discovery Farms®, Wisconsin Counties Association and Wisconsin Towns Association.

“We all have a responsibility in protecting one of our most precious resources – water,” said Shelly Mayer, Executive Director of PDPW and dairy producer from Slinger, Wisc. “As we all come together over the important topic of water, this event will help us discover countless approaches to manage this valuable resource.”

The Tues., Sept. 21 tour will depart from Bull Falls Brewery, 901 E. Thomas St., Wausau, Wis., at 8:00 a.m.

• Miltrim Farms Inc., Athens, Wisc. – Hear about systems these innovative dairy producers have established to mitigate their region’s historically challenged water quality.
• Over lunch a roundtable discussion will be held with local watershed members.
• Ross Ginseng, Edgar, Wisc. – Discover the water-centric strategies vital to producing ginseng amidst ever-increasing challenges.
• Bull Falls Brewery, Wausau, Wisc. – Water is critical to crafting beer. Learn how this brewery manages water quality and usage.

On Wed., Sept. 22, the tour will depart from the Barron County Extension Office, 330 East La Salle Ave., Barron, Wis., at 9:00 a.m.

• Jennie O Turkey, Barron, Wisc. – Find out how the Jennie-O approach to animal care and consumer needs intersects with judicious water use.
• Four Mile Creek Dairy, Hillside, Wisc. – Stop in to glean ideas on why waterways are such an important component to conservation.
• Viresco Turtle Lake, Wisc. – Gain an understanding of how this renewable energy facility keeps greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere, excess nutrients out of area lakes and waterways, and pollutant organic-waste compounds from the ecosystem.

Tours are designed for community members, farmers, educators, local elected officials and media. The registration fee of $50 per person per day includes bus travel, refreshments and lunch.
