Free online episodes offer insights to help producers stay on top of industry news and insights

 

Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW), announces the line-up of speakers for week 74 of The Dairy Signal™. Episodes this week will provide timely insights on dairy education and export trends, the finance and banking industry and meat processing industry.

Amy Wagner, Executive Vice President, Global Innovation Partnerships, Dairy Management Inc., and Karen Doster, Director, Youth and School Programs, Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin, will join The Dairy Signal to provide an update on programs focused on keeping dairy products at the forefront in schools and international markets.

Jim Moriarty, Director Dairy Lending and Dairy Consulting, Compeer Financial, and Sam Miller, Managing Director, Group Head, Agricultural Banking, BMO Harris Bank, will share insights from a banking and lending perspective.  Steve Van Lannen, President and Chief Operating Officer of American Foods Group will return to The Dairy Signal to provide an update on the beef processing industry.

Developed by fellow dairy farmers from the PDPW Board of Directors, The Dairy Signal is a weekly series of free educational episodes offering insights and resources for fellow dairy farmers and other food system professionals throughout the value chain. The episodes air live from 12:00-1:00 PM CT each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; recorded sessions are available later in the day.

On Aug. 31, Dr. Daryl Nydam, Professor of Dairy Health and Production in the Ambulatory and Production Medicine and Quality Milk Production Services sections at Cornell University, and Faculty Director for the Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability, and Dr. Franklyn Garry, DVM, Extension Specialist and Veterinarian, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Department of Clinical Sciences at Colorado State University, provided practical tips for monitoring and recording calf care, health and death records that will provide valuable information to stay ahead of disease issues and improve performance of your calf herd.

Eric Snodgrass, Principal Atmospheric Scientist, Nutrien Ag Solutions, returned to The Dairy Signal on Sept. 1 with a review of recent weather trends from drought, summer storm systems and hurricanes and a look ahead at fall and winter outlooks.  Dan Basse, Economist and President, AgResource Company, joined the program on Sept. 2 with his bi-weekly update on dairy news and market analysis, including the impact of Hurricane Ida on exports and commodity prices, as well as updates on consumption and demand for U.S. dairy products.

Each live session offers attendees the opportunity to engage in open Q&A with the speakers through the interactive platform.

Tuesday, Sept. 7

Topic: Tune in for an update on dairy promotion activities in several areas, including how programs are keeping dairy product at the forefront in schools and how dairy is penetrating international markets. Episode presenters include:

Wednesday, Sept. 8

Topic:  Banking and lending experts will share their expertise and knowledge on industry trends from loans to inflation to refinancing and more, and the potential impact on today’s dairy operations.  Episode presenters include:

  • Jim Moriarty, Director Dairy Lending and Dairy Consulting, Compeer Financial
  • Sam Miller, Managing Director, Group Head, Agricultural Banking, BMO Harris Bank

Thursday, Sept. 9

Topic:  Find out what’s new in the beef processing industry, when it comes to products, pricing, availability and exports. Episode presenter includes:

  • Steve Van Lannen, President and Chief Operating Officer of American Foods Group
