Two Pasture Walks Announced for October 25th and 29th in SWNY

Cornell Cooperative Extension is hosting two pasture walks in SWNY during the last week of October. The first pasture walk will be held at Kramer Farms, LLC in Holland from 12pm – 2pm on Monday, October 25th. The second pasture walk will be held at Heaven Scent Farm in Bath from 1pm – 3pm on Friday, October 29th.

Cornell Cooperative Extension invites farmers to learn more about grazing livestock

 

Cooperative Extension’s Southwest New York Dairy, Livestock, and Field Crops Program (SWNYDLFC) is hosting two pasture walks, scheduled for the last week in October. Join CCE on Monday, September 25th from 12pm – 2pm in Holland (Erie County) at Kramer Farms, LLC. Then, on Friday October 29th from 1pm – 3pm, they will be at Heaven Scent Farm in Bath (Steuben County). These programs are free to attend but registration is required to accurately plan for materials and for notification purposes.

Leading the pasture walks will be Cornell Cooperative Extension staff including: Fay Benson, former dairyman and current Cornell Small Dairy Support Specialist; Katelyn Walley-Stoll, Farm Business Management Specialist; and Amy Barkley, Livestock and Beginning Farm Specialist. They will walk these two pasture-based dairy farms in SWNY to discuss pasture compaction, late fall pasture management, transitioning from pasture to winter feeds, pasture economics, and winter cattle welfare considerations.

There will be light refreshments available. Participants should be prepared to stand and walk for most of this program.
