The grassroots support for getting whole milk back in schools has been incredible. And, with the recent passage of the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act and the recently revised USDA Dietary Guidelines, local dairy farmers, processors, and other stakeholders are asking what’s next. Each one of us can play a role in encouraging local schools to put whole milk back on the menu for school lunch. That starts by having a conversation with your school leaders and community members.
To get that conversation started, American Dairy Association North East has created two downloadable handouts about what dairy farmers can do to help get whole milk in your local schools:
- Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act—What It Means for Schools and Dairy Farmers(This resource includes tips on what dairy farmers can do, key points to keep in mind, and helpful messages for conversations with school leaders and community members)
- Great News! Your school may now offer whole and 2% milk for lunch! (This downloadable flyer or poster would be a good resource to share with your local schools and community members to spread the word)
Want to share what you see happening in your schools? Click here to fill out a form and share any whole milk related news and updates that you might have.
Do you need additional talking points? If you have questions and want direct support in communicating with your local schools, please contact Beth Meyer, director of consumer confidence for American Dairy Association North East, at bmeyer@milk4u.org.
