2023 Canfield Junior Fair Cooking Challenge

Do you love watching those cooking challenge shows where contestants are given a mystery bag of ingredients to cook with and prepare a meal?? Well, now we are offering a Cooking Challenge Competition with our 4-H youth members. We started with 12 4-H youth who have competed through three elimination rounds and have been narrowed down to the four competitors who have the honor of competing in a final grilling challenge at the Canfield Fair on Sunday, September 3, 2023 at 1:30pm on the stage in front of the Junior Fair Event Center near Gate F.

The participants will be given a mystery bag of must-use ingredients along with a pantry of basic ingredients that they can choose to use and will be given a challenge of creating a main dish and one side dish. The “mystery bag” will contain 6-8 ingredients that they each must use in some way in their dish. This final challenge is a grilling challenge. Blue Wolf Tavern Restaurant is providing all the food items the youth will be using along with Angiuli’s Farm Market providing all the produce. Chef Joe Rzonsa from Blue Wolf Tavern Restaurant will be on stage with the youth to interact with them while they are grilling. Our Mahoning County Commissioners will have the privilege of tasting all the youth’s creations and proclaiming one as the Champion of the 2023 Canfield Junior Fair 4-H Cooking Challenge.
