Bred and Owned Guernsey Wins Show

Valley Gem Atlas Malt-ET took home the honor of Grand Champion and Best Bred and Owned of the International Guernsey Show, Friday, October 4. Malt, the winning Four-Year-Old Cow and Senior Champion, was also awarded the Allen Hetts Grand Champion Trophy, the $1,000 Udder Comfort Grand Champion Award and the Douglaston Manor Farm Trophy for her breeder-exhibitor, Valley Gem Farms of Cumberland, Wis. Reserve Grand Champion and Reserve Senior Champion was Willow Brook Labron Toni, the first-place Six-Year-Old & Older Cow. She was exhibited by Matthew & Wesley Aiken of West Middlesex, Penn. Toni, who was last year’s Grand Champion Guernsey, was awarded the Burton Lane Trophy for her Reserve Grand Champion title.

Intermediate Champion honors and the Eugene Nelson Intermediate Champion Award went to the winning Junior Three-Year-Old Cow, H Broke Levi Tayte, shown by Springhill of Big Prairie, Ohio. Reserve intermediate champion was Thurston Farms Primetime Trixie, the first-place Yearling Heifer in Milk, exhibited by Katie T. Livingston of West Winfield, N.Y.

Knapps Apie Time To Show-ETV, the first-place Fall Yearling Heifer, was named Junior Champion and received the Norman E. Magnussen Memorial Award. She was shown by Glamourview-Iager & Walton of Walkersville, Md. Following Time to Show as the Reserve Junior Champion and second-place Fall Yearling Heifer was Springhill Jokes Finale-ETV, exhibited by Springhill and Valerie & Jim Spreng of Big Prairie, Ohio.

Premier Breeder honors were awarded to Springhill of Big Prairie, Ohio. Premier Exhibitor was Knapps Guernseys of Epworth, Iowa. In the heifer show, Austin and Landen Knapp received Premier Breeder, and Landen Knapp was Premier Exhibitor. Jens Gold Aaron Copper-ET was Premier Sire. Premier Sire of the Heifer Show was Indian Acres American Pie.

Official judge Seth Johnson of Tunbridge, Vt. and associate judge Jon Lantz of Ellsworth, Wis. placed a total of 203 animals in the International Guernsey Show.
