Cheese Power at Susquehanna County Ag Day

We scooped up 19 tubs of Manning’s ice cream and had cheese samples

Hello everyone. I’m Morgan Tweed, a Susquehanna County Dairy Ambassador and a Delmonico’s 4-H Club member. On March 6th Susquehanna County Penn State Cooperative Extension hosted Ag Day in the Elk Lake High School gym.

One corner of the gym was devoted to our County Dairy Princess and Court. We scooped up 19 tubs of Manning’s ice cream and had cheese samples, free to everyone.  We had a cow bookmark activity for kids and our new spinner wheel game where everyone had a chance to spin and answer a dairy trivia question and receive a prize.

Previous to Ag Day I had made a cheese tri-fold and showed it off at Ag Day. Cheese varieties on my tri-fold were Gouda, feta, mozzarella, cheddar, Swiss, mascarpone, brie, parmesan and gruyere. I haven’t tried all of these varieties but I will be trying new cheeses.

We had 105 people visiting Ag Day fill out our cheese survey to win our door prize basket. The basket was filled with many kinds of cheeses, several kinds of milk chocolate candy, cow pencils, dairy recipe book and other dairy related items. Right before the pie auction fundraiser for 4-H and Dairy Promotion I drew the winner of our basket. The winner was Cindy Bonavita.

I have not eaten all the varieties on my cheese tri-fold but I’m going to try some new cheeses and I hope you will too. What cheeses have you tried and what’s your favorite?
