Learn about the current situation, potential impacts on the dairy industry and how an outbreak could affect cattle movement. Speakers will discuss a Texas training pilot, share what signs to watch for in animals and provide practical steps dairy farmers and their teams can take now to prepare and minimize risk.
Speakers:
Adis Dijab, DVM, serves as Associate Deputy Administrator for USDA APHIS Veterinary Services. He earned his DVM from the University of Zagreb College of Veterinary Medicine in Croatia and practiced in a Kentucky animal clinic for eight years before joining. Since then, he has held leadership roles across the Food Safety Inspection Service and APHIS, including Supervisory Veterinary Medical Officer, Field VMO, Area Veterinarian-in-Charge, Program Director and Senior Executive Service positions.
Sonja L. Swiger, PhD, is a professor in the Texas A&M University Department of Entomology and an Extension specialist with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension. Her research and teaching interests lie in the field of managing nuisance biting flies and disease vectoring insects that impact the health of cattle and other livestock, wildlife and humans. Swiger plans, conducts and participates in educational programs for pest management of arthropods and diseases attacking livestock, companion animals and public health.
T.R. Lansford III, DVM, serves as Deputy Executive Director and Assistant State Veterinarian for the Texas Animal Health Commission. A native of South Texas, he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Texas A&M University. Throughout most of his career, Dr. Lansford has specialized in regulatory veterinary medicine. Prior to his current role, Dr. Lansford served as Assistant State Director of the Meat Safety Assurance Section at the Department of State Health Services.
This session is specifically intended for dairy farmers, including FARM Program participants, cooperative staff and associate members affiliated with NMPF. NMPF and the FARM Program reserve the right to deny participation in this webinar to non-members and non-program participants.
