How The SoyRoaster Works

Soybean Roasting For Your Dairy Farm

Step 1: Loading the Roaster
Soybeans are unloaded from a storage bin and augered into the intake hopper of the SoyRoaster.

Step 2: Roasting The Soybeans
The soybeans move through the center of the roaster, a double-walled pipe containing heating oil between the walls. Electric heating elements at the bottom heat the oil, which rises as it warms, while cooler oil sinks to be reheated. This process ensures a consistent 250-280°F roasting temperature. The beans remain in the heating chamber for about 30 minutes, then enter the steeping chamber for 15 minutes, where they bake without direct heat, allowing the heat to penetrate evenly to the center for a precise, uniform roast.

Step 3: Cooling the Beans
After roasting, the beans enter the cooling hopper, where ambient air is blown up through the soybeans for even cooling. Depending on where the soybean is in the hopper, it cools for anywhere from 1 to 30 minutes, creating a variable gradient effect that enhances the nutritional value of the beans.

Step 4: Grinding for Feed
Once cooled, the roasted soybeans move to the hammermill, where they are ground into a fine meal. This improves digestibility and ensures cows receive the maximum nutritional benefit from the soybeans.

Step 5: Storing The Soymeal
The blower kit transfers the ground soybean meal into a storage bin or directly into the feed system, providing a high-quality protein and energy source for dairy cows.

Step 6: Controlling The SoyRoaster

The SoyRoaster is controlled through a simple touch-screen that makes operation easy. Built-in safety overrides and fill sensors automatically start and stop different parts of the system as needed. The control panel can also be equipped with remote monitoring, so you can easily monitor the system right from your phone. This means the SoyRoaster can run around the clock, keeping everything running smoothly and safely.

The SoyRoaster is manufactured by A.N. Martin Systems, a grain handling installation and full-service company in upstate New York. We travel across the Northeast US, installing complete grain systems, storage bins, dryers, and feed mills.

Over the past few years, we began manufacturing the SoyRoaster as the solution for our dairy farmers to roast their own soybeans on-farm. And now we are bringing that same solution to you, shipped right to you for easy plug-and-play installation. Any questions, give us a call!
