Join Next “All Things Dairy” Call on June 10

Center for Dairy Excellence

To help dairy producers navigate the summer heat and the impact it can have on their herds, three Dairy Educators from

Penn State Extension will share strategies and insight on the Center for Dairy Excellence’s next “All Things Dairy” monthly conference call on Wednesday, June 10 at 1 p.m. EST.  These bi-monthly calls aim to provide a platform for organizations and industry partners to share timely updates, resources, programs, and upcoming events relevant to the dairy community.

During the June 10th call next week, you will hear from Kasey Hower, Emily Fread, and Angela Breneman from Penn State Extension. They will share:

  • Heat abatement strategies. Every dairy farmer recognizes the problems with heat stress: reduced milk production, a drop in dry matter intake, and panting cows. Our panelists will share strategies for keeping cows cool and minimizing the impact of heat stress, including: air exchange, airflow, water, frequent monitoring of your herd, and more.
  • Tips for feeding through the summer
. Heat stress can often lead to depressed dry matter intake and rumination, so they will share tips and tricks you can implement when feeding your cows this summer.
  • How to use various tools to help maintain production through heat stress. They will share which tools can help protect your herd against the risks of heat stress and maintain milk production during hot summer months.
  • Biosecurity update. Dr. Hayley Springer from the PA Department of Agriculture will also give a short update on HPAI in poultry, updates to import requirements and fair requirements for dairy cattle following updated federal guidance, and extension of the Mandatory Milk Influenza Testing Program.
