Online series features nutrient management planning, calf housing and market updates from leading experts
Dennis Frame, owner of Timber Ridge Consulting, and Eric Cooley, Co-Director of Discovery Farms, will provide recommendations on creating effective nutrient management plans and considerations when working with tile drainage. Laura Raatz, Herd Manager and Calf Manager, Wagner Farms, Inc., Cecil, Wis. and Christine Bender, Owner/Herd Manager, McFarlandale Dairy LLC, Watertown, Wis., will provide insights on their experiences moving to a “buddy system” in their calf housing program.
Dan Basse, Economist and President of AgResource Company, will return to The Dairy Signal with his bi-weekly update and analysis of dairy market trends and news.
Developed by fellow dairy farmers from the PDPW Board of Directors, The Dairy Signal is a weekly series of free educational episodes offering insights and resources for fellow dairy farmers and other food system professionals throughout the value chain. The episodes air live from 12:00-1:00 PM CT each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; recorded sessions are available later in the day.
Dr. Frank Mitloehner, PhD, Professor and Air Quality Extension Specialist with the Department of Animal Science at UC Davis, returned to The Dairy Signal on April 21 to provide an update on how California dairy farmers are effectively reducing methane production by producing biogas and converting it into renewable natural gas. He shared ongoing research into methane reduction, including answering questions about feed additives and options for smaller farms.
A dairy producer panel of Yogi Brown, Sunburst Dairy, Rosario Ibarra, General Manager, Grotegut Dairy Farm, Inc., and Heidi Fischer, Fischer-Clark Dairy Farm, LLC, shared their experiences and learnings with calf pasteurizer feeding systems on the April 22 episode.
Each live session offers attendees the opportunity to engage in open Q&A with the speakers through the interactive platform.
