New York City Students Visit Dairy Farm

Dutch Hollow Farm in Schodack Landing, N.Y., welcomed 50+ high school students and teachers from five Brooklyn schools in honor of National Farm to School Month. ADA North East organized the visit to build trust in dairy and show how technology and modern science are used on-farm.

New York State Department of Agriculture Commissioner Richard Ball, Deputy Commissioner Jennifer Trodden, and other government officials joined the group, along with ADA North East President Audrey Donahoe. Nate and Emily Chittenden of Dutch Hollow Farm provided a tour of the milking parlor, free stall barns, calf barns and the feed storage area. Each station showcased environmental and animal care, farm technology, sustainable food production, and safety.

ADA North East board member Kristine Brock and daughter Val Lavigne who own a food truck, The Farmers Feed Bunk, provided hot chocolate milk and lunch with chicken and cheese quesadillas, sweet potato fries, apples, white and chocolate milk, and water.
