Bethany Dado-Senn, Graduate Research Assistant, Lactation Physiology, Department of Animal & Dairy Sciences, UW-Madison; Brittney Davidson, Graduate Research Assistant, Department of Animal & Dairy Sciences, UW-Madison; and Jimena Laporta, Assistant Professor Lactation Physiology, Department of Animal & Dairy Sciences, will present the next “Rising Stars – Graduate Research Showcase” focused on effects of heat stress on dairy cattle and effective heat abatement.
Dan Basse, Economist and President of AgResource Company, will return to The Dairy Signal for his bi-weekly update on dairy markets and the latest news across the industry.
Developed by fellow dairy farmers from the PDPW Board of Directors, The Dairy Signal is a weekly series of free educational episodes offering insights and resources for fellow dairy farmers and other food system professionals throughout the value chain. The episodes air live from 12:00-1:00 PM CT each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; recorded sessions are available later in the day.
On the Sept. 21 episode, Dr. John Goeser, PhD, Director of Nutritional Research & Innovation at Rock River Lab, Inc., and Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Dairy Science Department at University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Dr. Luiz Ferraretto, Assistant Professor and Ruminant Nutrition Extension Specialist, Department of Animal and Dairy Science and Division of Extension, UW-Madison, shared data and insights on the 2021 corn silage crop based on crop samples to date, and provided recommendations for nutrition and rations based on this year’s crop quality.
Jerry Wulf, Manager and Partner, Riverview LLP Beef, Morris, Minn., and Kelli Retallick, President of Angus Genetics Incorporated, joined The Dairy Signal on Sept. 22 to share recommendations and practical considerations for producers looking to add value to their herd by crossbreeding with beef.
On Sept. 23, Dr. Tera Montgomery, Professor, Dairy and Animal Science and Campus Liaison Dairy Innovation Hub, UW-Platteville, and Troy Runge, Professor and Department Chair, Biological Systems Engineering and Campus Liaison Dairy Innovation Hub, UW-Madison, provided an update on progress of the Dairy Innovation Hub including new faculty members, published and ongoing research and investments in equipment and facility renovations to support future research for the industry.
