As you well know, the USDA is proposing to cut the amount of milk and dairy provided monthly to low-income women, infants, and children in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, or WIC. IDFA has been advocating that USDA abandon these proposed cuts when they finalize the WIC food package this year. Should the USDA move forward with it’s proposal, these benefits will be slashed for many years to come. With food insecurity and food inflation running stubbornly high, WIC participants just can’t afford the cuts in this misguided proposal.
Right now, IDFA is encouraging members of Congress to weigh in with USDA and urge the Department to reverse the cuts to milk and dairy benefits. Last month, a bipartisan group of U.S. Senators and Representatives did just that through two letters to USDA leadership. This week, we are asking that you take just a few minutes to contact your members Congress by writing them an email or calling their main office in Washington, D.C. to ask them to get involved in this effort.
