Free online episodes offer insights to help producers make informed decisions
Dr. Darlene Konkle, DVM, MS, DACVIM, State Veterinarian, Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, Dr. Elisabeth Patton, DVM, PhD, Diplomate ACVIM, Assistant State Veterinarian, Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection and Steve Maddox, Maddox Dairy, Burrel, California will provide an update on bovine tuberculosis and tips to protect your herd and prevent disease spread.
Dr. John Goeser, PhD, Director of Nutritional Research & Innovation at Rock River Lab, Inc., and Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Dairy Science Department at University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Scott Fleming, Nutrient Management Specialist and Sampling Director from Rock River Lab, will review the quality of hay and corn crops and the potential impact on dairy nutritional needs. Amber Radatz, Co-Director, Discovery Farms and Ryan Heiderman, Nitrogen Projects Coordinator, Discovery Farms will share updates on groundwater and nitrogen-use efficiency research.

On July 6, Adam Wehling, Dean of Agriculture, Energy, Construction & Transportation, Chippewa Valley Technical College and Frank Cardoza, Dairy Operations Manager, Philip Verwey Farms, Hanford, Calif., provided practical recommendations on how to evaluate the potential value of alternative energy sources such as solar, wind or geothermal for dairy operations.
The July 7 episode featured Shawn Darcy, Senior Director, Market Research, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and Brandon Scholz, President and CEO of the Wisconsin Grocers Association, shared valuable insights on consumer’s perception of beef as a protein source and how COVID-19 and beef prices and supplies have impacted buying behavior.
Dan Basse, Economist and President of AgResource Company, and Ben Buckner, Economist at AgResource Company returned to The Dairy Signal on July 8 with a bi-weekly update and analysis of U.S. and global agricultural markets. They provided highlights of recent USDA seeding reports, the strengthening U.S. dollar and an update on dairy exports and international markets.
